Project BEAR Coordinator
The Children’s Learning Center is where I have trained, learned, grown, and served throughout my education career. I began as an intern during my time as a student in the SSU School of Education, worked as a Teaching Assistant, Classroom Teacher, and currently serve as the Project BEAR Coordinator. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education with a 4/5 endorsement right here at Shawnee State University and will complete my Master’s degree in Reading Education with an Ohio Reading Endorsement through Concordia University in December 2021.
Project BEAR stands for Building Emerging and Achieving Readers. Through Project BEAR, I have the privilege of working with over twenty AmeriCorps service members annually, training them in the science of reading and evidence-based practices in child development. Those members go into schools serving students, birth-age 5 in Scioto County and provide direct literacy instruction to students. Another aspect of Project BEAR is our partnership with EasterSeals Central and Southeast Ohio. Two Project BEAR members serve alongside them signing up families with children birth-age 5 for the Ohio Governor’s Imagination Library program, putting free books in the hands of young children.
I believe that literacy is a right for every student, and every student deserves an equitable education to set them up for success. I am committed to providing evidence-based training and development for our BEAR members and all teachers who partner with our program.
My husband Matthew and I have two daughters, Brynlee and Hadlee. We enjoy spending our free time traveling, fishing, hiking, and anything else that allows us to spend quality time together.
I look forward to partnering with you to help ensure your child’s early literacy success.
