Project M.A.P.

Project M.A.P. (Mentoring Adults and Preschoolers) is a regional model for educational, environment, and economic development aimed at connecting CLC preschool children with their families, providing online early childhood instruction to preservice teachers and preservice pediatric professionals, and modeling mentoring between adults and young children in a broad-band early childhood classroom.

As the result of a generous grant from the a>Ohio Board of Regents, University Information Systems (UIS) has teamed up with the Children's Learning Center and Shawnee BASICS to implement this new internet based video streaming system that allows parents to log onto the CLC website and view their children from any standard web browser with a secured password. The system also provides cross-campus connectivity through utilization by students and faculty in the Department of Teacher Education, Allied Health, Social Sciences, and/or BASICS to enter preschool classrooms and view Ohio's Early Learning Academic Content Standards being carried out in a facility accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Dedicated bandwidth was established to ensure that the live streaming video is delivered at a quality rate and to also avoid any adverse effects on the SSU campus network.

In 2007, the center contracted the services of KidsVision, a company that specializes in providing video streaming services to university/childcare centers. For more information about the system, contact Cindy Ferguson, CLC Director at 740.351.3188 or Jaime Madden, Project Manager for UIS at 740.351.3204.

Ohio Children's Foundation

The Ohio Children's Foundation plays an important role in the lives of the boys and girls enrolled at SSU Children's Learning Center. Awarded grants and their philanthropy provided "Wheels for the Walking School Bus," allowing children to learn beyond the walls of the Center through community outings. In addition, Enrichment Scholarships during the last two years allowed 65 children to study and participate in everything from KinderMusic to Gardening; from Gymnastics to Cirque d' Art. The Foundation is also responsible for funding Phase 2 of the "Extreme Makeover CLC Playground Edition: Architect Move that Fence!" Existing mulch and a sinking trike trail will soon be replaced by poured in place rubber surfacing, and double wide synthetic trike trail, and handicapped accessible playground paths.

Ohio Quality Improvement Fund

Provided partial funding for fall zone surfacing under an existing large climber, converting it from mulch to poured in place rubber surfacing.

First Book

First Book expressed pride in supporting outstanding programs like the CLC and a result of First Book's publisher discounts, the Center received approximately 400 new books to be given away to enrollees. The message of early literacy echoes loudly as each child is given a book at enrollment, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's Day, and at the Super Star celebration when they exit the program.
