Welcome to the Dr. Miller & Genevieve Toombs Children's Learning Center (CLC) at Shawnee State University!
SSU Children's Learning Center is a full day university/community preschool licensed by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services that opened its doors in 1999 and quickly established itself as a leader in early childhood education with the distinction of being the first nationally accredited program in Scioto County by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) in 2004.
With a highly qualified staff of degreed teachers and university student teaching assistants enrolled full-time in degree-track programs, the Center provides diverse and fully integrated environments to develop young children's minds and transform self-directed, lifelong early learners into lifelong learners. Play is the work of young children, and the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) early learning content standards are implemented through a Developmentally Appropriate (DAP) curriculum that provides opportunities for discovery, exploration, and experimentation.
With a full time director, secretary, and four teachers, the CLC serves preschool children and families in a lab school environment while preparing the next generation of future teachers and pediatric social science/health professionals, echoing the message that Shawnee State University is a great place to start!
Take care of yourself.
Your Child is about to be inducted into the official Shawnee State University Children's Learning Center "Bear Cub" Program!
The "Bear Cub" rules are:
Take care of others.
Take care of your school.
With parents as partners and all of the staff working together, we can positively impact one another in our preschool world and in the world as a whole. Partner with us in learning to live by these rules. In so doing, we stand to positively impact respect for all people and things. That impact is far-reaching. It stands to not only impact our early learners now…but for a lifetime. Let's make it a goal to change the world, one preschooler at a time!
