I serve as the Literacy Specialist at Shawnee State University Children’s Learning Center. It is a privilege to work in this capacity, as I am able, to share my experiences and learning with others. For over 35 years I have been involved in the Education Profession. These experiences range from Kindergarten teacher and Literacy Specialist to Training/Mentoring colleagues. As I transitioned to Retirement, I began as an Adjunct Instructor and Student Teacher Supervisor in the Education Department at SSU. This allowed me to continue in a part-time capacity the journey I began so many years ago. My greatest joy in this career has been to share in the journey of educating children.
On a personal level, I am the 2nd oldest of 8 daughters. This is where my journey of nurturing and teaching has its roots. There was always an opportunity to teach and nurture. My involvement in my church also greatly contributed to this journey and continues to this day as I shepherd children in their life journey.
Family is so critical and has had such an influence in my career as a teacher and mentor. My Mother and Father were my first teachers and guide me, even to this day, as I journey through life. I have been married for over 45 years to the love of my life and we have 2 sons who are my greatest treasures. An interesting coincidence is that my 2 grandchildren attended preschool at the CLC. Their time here was a great experience for them. As a family, we were very pleased with the investment and impact the CLC staff made in their life journey. My granddaughter now attends SSU and my grandson is a student at Minford.
My CLC Literacy Specialist position at this time is the latest in my journey. It is my “JOY” to mentor our Literacy Coach and provide support for the staff. You can be confident in your decision to share your most precious treasure with the CLC during these important developmental years. In my short time here, I have learned so much about preschool and look forward to continuing on the journey.
